Music Department


At Lincoln Lutheran we have a thriving music department. Your child will be able to partake in many music classes and activities such as Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Choir. Your child will be able to participate in many music competitions and shows. The band also will play at home games, at events such as football halftime and at basketball games. The music department is headed Mr. Morris who recently came to Lincoln Lutheran. We are very happy to have him and he is very talented in what he does.

Harvest of Harmony Parade

Every Fall the city of Grand Island hosts a parade featuring the musical talents of Nebraska's high schools. Over 100 bands from across the state participated in the 75th annual Harvest of Harmony parade.The Lincoln Lutheran Marching Band performed this year by playing the music of Chicago and Bill Chase. Hundreds of people lined the streets of downtown Grand Island to cheer on all the bands.

Music Studio Renovation Complete

Ready for the '16-'17 school year is the newly renovated Music Studio! After very generous support from the Lincoln Lutheran Community, we were able to turn what was once a storage closet into a well equipped and sound engineered rehearsal space! The Mac is loaded with composition, recording, editing, and rehearsal software for students to further enhance their musicianship skills. The room also boasts a BlueBird Microphone, M-Audio Midi Keyboard, and a Scarlett Audio Mixer. Thank you for making this studio possible!

Emphasis is placed on music reading skills through the course text and vocal pedagogy with individual and group exercises. Students share gifts and contribute to the culture of the Lincoln Lutheran community by performing at several school, church, and community events.

High School Band

Students continue to incorporate previously learned skills while expanding their skill sets. The instructor requests a placement audition. Students continue to build fundamentals and are exposed to high-level musicianship concepts through a varied repertoire and ensemble experience. Students share gifts and contribute to the culture of the Lincoln Lutheran community by performing at several school and public events. Students experience a variety of performance modes in these settings.

Musicianship

This course is designed to develop individual musicianship skills through studying the elements of harmony, form, and style in music. Song-writing, arranging, composing and listening skills are learned and developed in this course. These elements of music are discussed through comparing and contrasting present day music styles with classical music forms. No previous musical training is required.

Middle School Band

Course Text: Pearson, Bruce. Standard of Excellence: Comprehensive Band Method. Books 2 and 3. Students are educated through the course text to expand on previously learned playing and reading skills. This developmental period demands students accelerate their musical knowledge by increasing their range of pitches, rhythmic vocabulary, knowledge of scales, and proficiency with new key signatures. Application of mature musical concepts such as tone quality, phrasing, and nuance are also explored as students gain awareness and sensitivity.

Middle School Chorus

This is a non-audition group which concentrates on proper vocal technique, fundamental musicianship, and the particular aspects of choral singing. A variety of styles of music, both sacred and secular, are examined and performed through the literature selected.

Students continue to incorporate previously learned skills while learning new skills from the jazz and popular music idioms. Students continue to build fundamentals and are exposed to high-level musicianship concepts through a varied repertoire and ensemble experience. Students share gifts and contribute to the culture of the Lincoln Lutheran community by performing at several school and public events. Students experience a variety of modes in these settings. Large and small ensemble experiences are incorporated to equip students for music making beyond high school.
