Senior Ethics Class Presentations

Seniors in Ethics class are currently studying the theology of vocation, and recently, they had some visitors. The goal is for students to hear from different adults about the daily callings of God.  Students have studied at length the doctrine of vocation. One conclusion is that, unlike pre-Reformation thinking, our calling to serve God is not restricted to being a pastor or church worker. To quote Martin Luther, “the milkmaid has as honorable calling as the priest or preacher...God provides daily nourishment through the milkmaid.” Here are some very brief summaries of the presentations these fellow brothers and sisters in Christ shared with the classes. Please open the attached document and read more detailed summaries of each presentation.

Sheila Ziems -- Stay-at-Home mother & Caregiver at Home Instead Senior Care. "We are first an foremost God's child,  and that can, and should, shape how we encounter everyone."

Michelle Metzger - University Professor, Software Designer & In-home Care Giver.  "You can never predict how God will use you to bless those to which he has called you."

Anthony & Tina Barrett - CPAs and Financial Planners specializing in helping farmers. In all areas, whether working on a 10-key pad or in a combine, we can embrace the way God works through our skills to bless others.

Andrew Greer - Dir. of Engagement for UNL Athletics "Yes, God has a plan for you, but you become equipped by learning - spiritually, personally & professionally."

Greg Stennett - Estimator for Hampton Construction shared many examples where his vocation required him to keep his value system at the forefront of his professional dealings so he can best serve his company and customers.

Mark Wentz - Associate Executive Dir. of Prairie Gold Homes has worn many different vocational hats, teacher, father, prison guard, coach and construction worker, all which have allowed him to have his current vocation. God is at work shaping us through a myriad of life events to bring us to the vocation he wants us in.

Bryce Wendland - Schneider Electric "I've figured out that things don't go so well when it's all about me; however, it goes best when I make my efforts my goals, my hopes, about serving others."
