MS National Lutheran BB Tourney

For the third time in school history, the Lady Warriors Middle School Basketball Team participated in the Lutheran School National Tournament in Valparaiso, Indiana on March 28-31. The Warriors relied on strong defense forcing an average of 26 turnovers per game to finish the tournament with a 3-2 record capturing 11th place out of a field of 32 teams from across the United States.

In the opening game, the Warriors gave up an 8-point fourth quarter lead to lose 33-35 to the eventual 5th place team St. Paul from Mt. Prospect, Illinois. In the second round, the Lady Warriors dominated St. Luke's from Oviedo, FL forcing 34 turnovers to earn a 39-9 victory.

The third round paired the Warriors against the Indiana State Champion St. Peter's of Columbus, IN. Once again the Warriors cranked up their defense and forced 27 turnovers to defeat St. Peters 33-13. In their fourth game, Lincoln Lutheran was matched up with the Missouri State Champion St. John from Ellisville, MO. The Warriors finally got their offense uncorked scoring 20 first-quarter points stretching the halftime lead to 35-10. The final score was 51-28 and the victory placed the Warriors into the semifinals of the consolation bracket.

On Sunday morning, the Lady Warriors were matched-up was against the Wisconsin State Champion, St. John from Wauwatosa, WI. Despite forcing 27 turnovers, points were tough to come by and St. John got hot from the perimeter. The Warriors eventually lost 31-40 and were eliminated from the tournament.

The Warriors were led in scoring for the tournament by Abby Wachal (69) and Jami Wahl (31). Wachal was selected as one of the 10 All-Tournament Team members. All twelve team members scored in at least one of the five games at nationals. 

The Lady Warriors finished their season with a 14-2 record earning championships at the Concordia C-Club, Lincoln Lutheran Middle School and the Nebraska Lutheran Roundball tournaments along with an 11th place finish at the Lutheran National Tournament.
