Comfort Dog Bonds Students

Research shows that therapy dogs in schools provide significant benefits for students.  Priscilla is a trained K-9 Comfort Dog from Lutheran Church Charities.  She visits Lincoln Lutheran students every other Monday. Priscilla has been trained to use her instincts to comfort and support people, which leads to social, emotional, and cognitive benefits.

“Priscilla’s presence brings so much joy to our students”, says Head of School, Sheila Psencik. “The kids are relaxed and happy when they are interacting with her and have developed a bond that grows stronger and more personal with each visit. The positive effect on children’s social and emotional development is a proven fact, and we are thrilled that we are able to provide this service to our students.”

When asked how they feel about having Priscilla at school, the students’ responses were enthusiastic.

“I love her!”    ~Elisha Grimpo, 6th grade Warrior

“It’s different having a dog at school.  A good kind of different!”   ~Joslyn Dvorak, 6th grade Warrior

“She’s the best dog ever.  If you’re having a bad day and she lays her head on you, it makes you feel so much better!”    ~ Ezryella Montanez, 6th grade Warrior

“It is amazing how calm Priscilla is when there is so much going on around her", says Head of School Sheila Psencik. "That temperament definitely transfers to the students when they are in her presence. All in all, she is a huge blessing to our school community!”
