Kumm

Students across Nebraska recently participated in the 26th annual Letters About Literature competition, an inspiring contest that encourages young writers to reflect on how books have shaped their lives. This year, one of Lincoln Lutheran Middle and High School's very own students, Taryn Kumm, earned recognition as a runner-up in the 7th and 8th-grade category.

Taryn, a passionate writer and avid reader, wrote a heartfelt letter to author Veronica Roth, sharing how Roth’s book Divergent impacted her life. Taryn’s thoughtful reflections on how literature can inspire personal growth earned her a spot as a runner-up in this statewide competition—a prestigious honor that showcases her talent, creativity, and love for literature.

As part of her recognition, Taryn will attend a proclamation signing ceremony with Governor Jim Pillen on April 10th, celebrating the power of reading and writing. The Letters About Literature competition not only encourages young people to engage with literature but also provides a platform for them to connect with authors who have made a meaningful impact on their lives.

This program is coordinated and sponsored by organizations such as the Nebraska Center for the Book, Nebraska Library Commission, Lincoln City Libraries, Humanities Nebraska, Connie Osborne, Francie & Finch Bookshop of Lincoln, and Chapters Bookstore in Seward. Their support allows Nebraska students like Taryn to showcase their writing skills and share their love of books.

Taryn’s achievement reflects the dedication to academic excellence and passion for literature that Lincoln Lutheran students are known for. Her success in the competition is a proud moment for the entire Lincoln Lutheran community, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her shine in this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations, Taryn, on your outstanding accomplishment!
